Because this is a private tour with flexible start times, we typically depart Salalah in the early afternoon (between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, depending on the season, your hotel location and sunset time). The total duration is 8 to 9 hours, bringing you back to Salalah in the late evening after sunset. It's possible to add dinner in the desert or on the way back in Thumrait.Â
Complimentary pick-up and drop-off from any hotel, resort, private accommodation within Salalah, Salalah Airport (SLL), or the Salalah Cruise Port are included at no extra charge.
Yes! Because this trip is 100% private and customizable, we can easily stop at Wadi Dawkah (a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with ancient Frankincense trees) or the legendary Lost City of Ubar (Shisr) along the route to the deep dunes.
Note: Admission to the Lost City of Ubar is 3 OMR per person (paid on-site).
Clothing: Wear breathable, lightweight clothing for the warm afternoon drive. Bring a light jacket or sweater, as open desert temperatures drop quickly after sunset (especially in the winter months).
Footwear: Comfortable sandals or slip-on shoes work best for walking on sand dunes.
Essentials: Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and your camera or smartphone with plenty of storage and battery power.
We provide chilled bottled water, soft drinks and local snacks during our dune sunset stop.

Yes, the desert plains between Thumrait and the Rub' al Khali dunes are home to free-roaming Bedouin camel herds, including the famous rare black camels (Al Majaheem). While wildlife sightings are natural and unpredictable, seeing these magnificent animals along the route is a frequent highlight.
