Oman’s National Day holiday falls on Wednesday and Thursday, November 25 and 26. With the weekend, that gives you four days off. If you are still deciding where to spend them, here is a suggestion: come to Salalah.
By late November the khareef is over. The mist has gone, the days are dry and clear, and the nights are cool and perfect for sleeping outside. It is one of the best times of year to be in Dhofar, and it is much quieter than the summer season.
We have prepared three ways to spend your break. All three are a limited offer for National Day 2026 only.
Your three options at a glance
| Trip | Length | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4×4 camping road trip with rooftop tent | 3 nights, 4 days | Freedom, beaches, mountains and families | 360 OMR for the whole group (up to 4 people) |
| Desert overnight | 1 night, 2 days | Dunes, black camels and a sky full of stars | From 90 OMR per person (group of min 4) |
| Private day tours | 1 to 4 tours | A local guide, a driver and a hotel bed | From 82 OMR per tour, for 1 to 6 people |

Camp your way along the Dhofar coast
Imagine waking up on a beach, making coffee next to your car, and deciding over breakfast where to go next. That is the idea behind our 4×4 with rooftop tent.
You get a Toyota Tacoma with everything you need already fitted: a rooftop tent, a fridge, a table and chairs, cooking equipment, a sunshade, a shower and toilet, and a water tank. Two people sleep in the rooftop tent and two in the ground tent. There is nothing to book in advance, so you can stay longer at a place you love and skip the ones you don’t.
The special National Day price is 360 OMR for 3 nights and 4 days, and it covers the whole group. You can go as 2 adults, 2 adults with 2 kids, or 4 adults. If you travel as four adults, that is 90 OMR each for a four-day road trip with accommodation included.
You also get our free guide book. It has a recommended route, our favourite camping spots, a packing list and restaurant recommendations, so you don’t have to research anything yourself.
Here is how the four days could look.
You collect the car in Salalah on the first morning and stock up on food, firewood and charcoal at Lulu Hypermarket, Hypermax or Nesto. Then you drive west. Stop at Mughsail Beach and the Blowholes, look into Marneef Cave, and take in the Hidden Beach viewpoint. Your first night is at Fazayah Beach, with the sound of the sea and almost no phone signal. Download your maps before you go.
On day two you continue west to Shaat Viewpoint and on to Rakhyut. Spend the night at Khor Kharfout, right next to the beach. It is a good place for migratory birds, and you may see turtles and dolphins from the shore.
Day three takes you back to Salalah to refill the fridge and the water tank. Then you head east to Wadi Darbat and up to the top of Jebel Samhan. This is the night people remember, with sunset and sunrise over the mountains.
On the last day you can visit the baobab trees and Gravity Point before returning the car in Salalah.
This is only a suggestion. The best part of a rooftop tent is that you can change the plan as you go.
Sleep in the desert for a night
If the mountains and beaches are not enough, head inland. Our desert overnight takes you deep into the sand for one night of private camping, with a sky full of stars.
You can do it in two ways. If you have your own 4×4 and camping equipment, you can join us with your own car. If you don’t, we provide the camping equipment, the car and a guide. The trip can be private for your family or friends, or you can join a group.
Here is how it goes.
You leave Salalah and stop for a coffee in Thumrait, the last town before the desert. From there you drive into the sand, where you may spot black camels along the way. Once you arrive, you climb the dunes and take your time for pictures.
As the sun goes down, you sit back with some drinks and snacks and watch the colours change over the sand. Then you set up the tents for the night and cook dinner together. After dinner, you gather around the fire and watch the stars. Far from any city lights, the sky is full.
In the morning, you wake up to breakfast in the desert. Then you drive to Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO heritage site, and visit Ubar, the Lost City. The entrance fee for Ubar is 3 OMR per person. After that, you return to Salalah.
Price: 180 OMR with your own 4×4 and equipment, or 90 OMR per person (group of 4) with our camping equipment, food, car and guide.
For group departures, please contact us to ask for dates.
Prefer a guide? Take a private tour
Not everyone wants to drive and camp, and a short holiday doesn’t always leave time for it. If you would rather sit back and let a local guide show you around, our private tours are a better fit.
Each tour is private for your family or group of 1 to 6 people. The price is per tour, not per person, and these are special prices for National Day 2026 only.
East tour, 100 OMR. Start at Taqa, then head into the green valley of Wadi Darbat. From there you climb Jebel Samhan Mountain for the views, stop at the baobab trees, and finish at Gravity Point, where your car seems to roll uphill.
West tour, 100 OMR. Drive along the coast to Mughsail Beach and the Blowholes, then visit Marneef Cave and the Hidden Beach viewpoint. The day continues to Fazayah Beach, where you can enjoy off-road driving and a swim, and ends with the Frankincense Trail.
City tour, 82 OMR. Salalah’s main sights in one day: the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Al Baleed and the Museum of the Frankincense Land, the souq, the plantations and Al Haffa Waterfront.
Hiking to Ayn Ghedh, 120 OMR. For those who want to get out on foot. The walk takes about 45 minutes each way and is moderate, so wear proper shoes and sport clothes.
How many tours you book depends on your flight times. If you land in the morning and leave late, you can fit four. If your stay is short, one or two is enough. Two tours such as the West tour and the City tour cost 182 OMR in total. All four tours cost 402 OMR, which comes to about 67 OMR per person for a group of six.
Flights and accommodation are not included. You book those yourself, so reserve your hotel early, because the National Day weekend is busy. If you would like to join other travellers instead of going private, we also run group tours. Contact us to ask for dates.
Which one should you choose?
If you want freedom, beaches and mountains, choose the 4×4 camping road trip. If you want one unforgettable night under the stars, choose the desert overnight. If you prefer a local guide, a hotel bed and a more relaxed pace, choose the private tours. Either way, you will see a side of Dhofar that most holiday visitors miss.
