Expedition 4x4 Rentals with Rooftop Tents

Drivers must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 1 year. All additional drivers must be registered on the contract prior to departure.

Our standard high-shell rooftop tent comfortably sleeps 2 adults. For groups of 3 to 5 passengers, we can equip the vehicle with a second rooftop tent or provide a spacious high-quality ground tent with foam mattresses.

For strict hygiene standards, we ask renters to bring their own sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows. If you prefer not to travel with bedding, we provide directions to hypermarkets near Muscat (MCT) or Salalah (SLL) airports where you can purchase inexpensive camping bedding upon arrival.

Vehicles are equipped with a dual-battery system. The 12V compressor fridge runs on an isolated second battery that recharges while you drive. This ensures your food and drinks stay ice-cold overnight without draining the vehicle’s main starter battery.

Oman has an extensive network of modern gas stations (Shell, Al Maha, Omanoil) every few kilometers along major roads. All our 4x4 rental vehicles run on Super 95 petrol. At these service stations, local hardware stores, and hypermarkets across every main town, you can easily refill fresh water tanks and buy cooking gas canisters.

Please note: To eliminate safety risks associated with storing pressurized gas in extreme desert heat during vehicle transport, we do not pre-pack full gas canisters inside the vehicle's cooking bag. Small canisters can be purchased locally upon arrival.

Oman is officially ranked as one of the safest countries in the world for travelers. Wild camping is legal nationwide on public land, including beaches, valleys, and mountain plateaus. You can camp freely as long as you respect local private property, farmland, and ecological reserves.

Yes, a true low-range 4x4 is required by royal Omani police checkpoints to access high-altitude mountain destinations like Jebel Akhdar. Furthermore, a 4x4 overland vehicle is essential if you plan to drive on unpaved mountain roads, navigate wadis, or camp on sand dunes and remote beaches.

Unguided driving into high-risk dune systems—including Bar Al Hikman, Sugar Dunes (Khaluf), Wahiba Sands, or the deep Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter)—is strictly prohibited due to severe risk of vehicle damage and recovery costs. To explore deep desert dunes safely, we can provide a professional local desert guide upon request.

All vehicles are delivered with heavy-duty off-road tires, a full-sized spare, tire jack, and basic emergency tools. Minor punctures can be patched for a small fee at any local tire repair shop (dhoft/welding shop) found in almost every town. Renter is responsible for puncture repairs or full tire replacement if damaged beyond repair.

Oman’s flash floods can create extreme undercurrents that sweep vehicles away and cause permanent engine hydrolock. Driving through flowing water instantly voids all commercial vehicle insurance. Always wait for wadi waters to subside or turn back to a safe route.

Comprehensive vehicle insurance is included, subject to a maximum excess/deductible of 250 OMR per incident. Crucial rule: In the event of any damage or accident, you must leave the car in position and call the Omani Traffic Police to obtain an official police report. Moving the car without a police report voids insurance coverage.

Provided the vehicle is returned damage-free and clean, your security deposit is refunded directly to your bank account within 30 working days after the rental ends. This timeframe allows the Omani Royal Police speed radar system to process and log any automated traffic fines incurred during your rental period.

WhatsApp voice calls are blocked by telecom providers in Oman. Having an Omani SIM card (available at airport arrivals for around 5–10 OMR) gives you local cellular data for GPS navigation and allows direct phone communication with our 24/7 emergency support team.
